O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.
Psalm 136:1

November is the month that holds the holiday of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving in day to day living is something that we could get all preachy about and condemn one another for not being more grateful than we are. I suppose we could say “look at all we have” and “how little others have” and shouldn’t we be more grateful? I think that would be logical to think that this kind of comparison should drive us toward a more grateful attitude but it doesn’t, any more than it would a spoiled child around a present laden Christmas tree. What might then move us to an attitude of Thanksgiving? Religion! Really? Yes really? To come to the knowledge that we are loved by our maker, redeemed by our Savior and held close to God’s pathway by the Holy Spirit gets us into a very different frame of mind. Gratitude, love and thankfulness are the traits of people who know that they are loved beyond any human measure.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
