And what is so rare as a day in June?
Most of the month of June falls within the season of spring. I think as a young person I considered June to be summer all the way through. School ended, usually in the second week of June and a wonderful transition came about in my life. Things were going to be different now! And they were!
I suppose that what I was experiencing as a boy was “transition” though I did not have the word for it then. As human beings we undergo many transitions in life. I often marvel at how many transitions seemed to pass me by in earlier life. A Christian author that I have valued over the years, Fred Buechner, has encouraged us “pay attention” to our lives. Too often we go through the motions of life with little thought of the meaning of things, or how very precious even the smallest of things can be. A touch, a smile, the fragrance of flowers, the bursting for completing spring and summer’s onset. This time comes but once a year and should not be overlooked for its joy and splendor.
Matthew 13:31-32 31 He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. 32 Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.” Pay attention to the life God gives you and pay attention to June’s lessons as well.
