“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” — Matthew 6:21 (NIV)

For me, these words are saying, “Trust God and God alone.”   It’s not easy to give up control and to trust God alone. But, we cannot trust that our earthly treasures will be here for us tomorrow. All you have to do is watch the news to see stories of people who have lost everything to explosions, fires, and storms and even poor judgement. Things are not forever.

Many people give something up for Lent – sweets, soda, and other treats. One of my Catholic friends is giving up Face Book for Lent and using the time previously spent on Face Book to pray and to do charitable works. Practicing self- discipline is good for us, but what would happen if we gave up relying on ourselves and our possessions and relied on God? What if we were to truly, wholly, and without reservation put our trust in God’s Grace? Would the words, “Behold the Lamb of God has risen from the dead,” give us new hope for new life ? Earthly treasures come with no guarantee! Trust the riches of heaven. Trust in God’s Grace. Trust in the Resurrection, the triumph of life over death and Christ’s presence among us now and forever.

Please join us on Sunday mornings for Sunday School and worship and may God bless you all with a meaningful, joyous Easter!

Blessings,
Pastor Susan
