“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
Here is a true story of that verse in action. Through some correspondence our Sunday School children received from our sponsored child, they learned that Mohamad loves Legos. We have collection jars in each class to collect change to buy things for Mohamad and his school that they might not have otherwise. The children decided to buy a large Lego set to send to him. It sounded like a relatively simple project; however, the child lives in Jerusalem and the fighting and political unrest there made it impossible for us to have them shipped directly to his school. I sought the help of Linda Lawrence at the National UCC church in Cleveland. She suggested that we send the money to the school and let them purchase the Legos. Of course we were disappointed that he would not be receiving a gift directly from us, but I canceled the order and was about to send the money when I heard again from Linda. She and the others from the National Church were so touched by our children’s generosity toward a child that they never even met that they checked with the staff to see if anyone was planning a trip to the school. Sure enough, they found someone. Dr. Peter Makari is traveling to the school this fall and would be delighted to hand deliver them to Mohamad and his classmates. He will also try to get a picture of Mohamad and the other children with the Legos. I reordered the Legos and had them shipped to Cleveland. They have arrived there and will be ready for Dr. Makari to deliver when he visits. I will keep you updated as I get more information.
I thank God that there are people in this world like Linda, Dr. Makari, and the children of First UCC.
